SIR Process Over Documentation Raises Concerns; Asaduddin Owaisi Urges Election Commission to Relax Requirements
AIMIM chief warns of challenges in voter verification process and calls for greater transparency to protect public confidence.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has raised serious concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of voter verification, urging the Election Commission to reconsider strict documentation requirements and make the procedure more accessible for citizens.
The voter verification exercise has already begun, with the initial voter list scheduled to be released on July 31, while the final electoral roll is expected to be published on October 1, 2026.
Owaisi stated that the process is taking place during the monsoon season and involves verification of lakhs of citizens within a limited timeframe, making it a highly sensitive exercise. He stressed that the Election Commission should ensure that genuine voters are not affected due to complicated procedures or lack of documents.
He called for a transparent approach and said that the focus should remain on strengthening public trust in the electoral system rather than creating difficulties for citizens. According to him, the verification process must be conducted with fairness and inclusiveness so that no eligible voter is excluded.
Owaisi further urged the Election Commission to take immediate steps to address concerns raised by citizens and political groups, ensuring that the democratic process remains credible and free from doubts.
