SIR 2026: Overseas Electors Get Major Relief, No Personal Appearance Required
Adult family members can submit documents and information on behalf of overseas, elderly, sick and disabled voters
Bhatkal/ Bengaluru: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, has provided major relief to overseas electors in connection with notices issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.
Under the new arrangement, an adult family member can appear before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer on behalf of an overseas elector and submit the required documents or information.
The facility has also been extended to senior citizens, persons with disabilities and sick electors who may find it difficult to personally visit election offices.
According to a memorandum issued on September 11, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office has directed District Election Officers, Deputy Commissioners, the Greater Bengaluru Authority and concerned election officials of the Bengaluru City Corporation to issue necessary instructions to EROs and AEROs under their jurisdiction.
The memorandum states that an adult family member of a senior citizen, person with disability, sick elector or overseas elector may appear before the ERO or AERO on behalf of the voter and submit the required documents or information for the disposal of an SIR notice.
The decision is aimed at making the SIR process more accessible and ensuring that eligible voters do not face unnecessary difficulties in responding to notices due to age, health conditions, disability or residence abroad.
