A career guidance programme jointly organised by Shams Pre-University College Bhatkal and the SIO Bhatkal Unit brought together students, educators, and field experts on April 19, 2026, offering young learners a rare opportunity to think seriously about their futures.

The event addressed a common challenge many students face: choosing a career direction after their 10th or 12th grade without any real guidance, often just following what their peers are doing. The programme aimed to change that by helping students identify their own interests, strengths, and natural inclinations before making one of the most important decisions of their lives.

Three subject experts led interactive sessions covering a wide range of career fields.

Dr. Abdullah Yahya Zawari, a Pharm.D holder and PhD scholar at CRC, KMC, MAHE Manipal, walked students through opportunities in the medical and research sectors, giving them a realistic and inspiring look at what a career in healthcare and clinical research can look like.

Professor Awad Chamandi, a Senior Research Fellow at NIT Calicut, focused on pathways in science, technology, and research, encouraging students to explore the vast possibilities that STEM fields offer in today’s world.

Maulana Abdul Rafi Nadwi spoke about the humanities, highlighting the relevance and scope of literature, social sciences, and related disciplines, fields that are often overlooked but carry immense value in shaping society.

One of the standout features of the day was a one-to-one counselling session, where students sat down with the experts individually to discuss their personal questions, concerns, and career aspirations. More than 150 students attended and made the most of this opportunity.

The programme opened with a recitation by Syed Sarim Barmawar, and the proceedings were compered smoothly by Thamama. Professor Abdul Tawwab Akrami delivered the welcome address and introduced the guests. Also present were the college’s First Vice President Zia ur Rahman Ruknuddin, School Board Vice Maulana Syed Qutb Barmawar Nadwi, and senior faculty member Raza Manvi.

The event left students with a clearer sense of direction, renewed confidence, and the motivation to work hard toward goals they had truly chosen for themselves.
