Mangaluru: Family and personal disputes should, as far as possible, be resolved through Darul Khaza instead of civil courts, as this would help prevent unnecessary judicial intervention in matters related to Sharia and Muslim Personal Law, said Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, General Secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).

He was addressing a gathering of Muslim intellectuals on the theme “Current Affairs and Our Responsibilities,” jointly organised by Iqra Arabic School and HIF India at the HIF Auditorium in Vas Lane, Mangaluru, on Tuesday evening.

Speaking about the role and objectives of the AIMPLB, Maulana Mujaddidi stressed that safeguarding Muslim Personal Law remains one of the Board’s foremost responsibilities. He urged the community to strengthen Islamic values within families and ensure these values are passed on to future generations. He also called on Muslims to face present day challenges with unity, clarity, and a long term strategy rather than emotional reactions.

Appealing to the community to make greater use of Darul Khaza for resolving family and personal matters, he said such an approach would help reduce unnecessary legal intervention in issues governed by Islamic law.

Delivering the introductory address, Muhammad Kunhi, Director of Shanti Prakashan, Mangaluru, spoke about the challenges confronting the Muslim community. Referring to issues such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, he said these developments have raised serious concerns within the community. He added that Muslims should respond to such challenges with patience, wisdom, and long term planning.

He also referred to developments in Iran and Palestine, alleging that the United States and Israel were responsible for the prevailing situation, and urged the community to remain united and adopt a strategic approach instead of reacting emotionally.

The programme was presided over by Maulana Salim Khalifa Nadvi, Principal of Iqra Arabic School, who highlighted the importance of collective efforts to safeguard Muslim Personal Law in India.

Several scholars, religious leaders, and members of the public attended the programme.
