Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Coastal Karnataka, warning of extremely heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, squally weather, and strong surface winds over the coming days.

According to the latest weather forecast issued on July 1, Coastal Karnataka is likely to receive extremely heavy rain on July 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7. Very heavy rainfall is also expected on July 3 and 4. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are likely to affect the region throughout the seven day forecast period.

Officials have also warned of winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph across the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada. Similar wind conditions are expected over the adjoining coastal waters, and residents have been advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines.

In North Interior Karnataka, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected from July 1 to July 7.

Meanwhile, South Interior Karnataka is likely to receive heavy rain from July 1 to July 4. Rainfall intensity is expected to increase from July 5 to July 7, with very heavy showers forecast across the region. Thunderstorms and strong winds are also expected during this period.

The Karnataka government has asked district administrations, disaster management agencies, and the public to remain vigilant as widespread rainfall is likely to continue across the state over the next week.
