Public Welfare Is Government’s Top Priority During Disasters, Says Minister U.T. Khader in Karwar
Minister reviews monsoon preparedness in Uttara Kannada and directs officials to ensure swift relief, healthcare, and rehabilitation measures.
Uttara Kannada District In charge Minister U.T. Khader has said that providing immediate relief and support to people during natural disasters and other emergencies remains the government’s highest priority.
Chairing a review meeting on disaster preparedness and the progress of various government departments at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Karwar on Saturday, the minister instructed officials to remain fully prepared to tackle challenges during the ongoing monsoon season.
Khader directed officials to ensure that relief reaches affected families without delay in cases of floods, landslides, or damage to houses. He warned that strict action would be taken against officials responsible for unnecessary delays in providing compensation or assistance.
He stressed that both government officials and elected representatives must remain available around the clock during emergencies and respond promptly to public grievances. He also urged officers to discharge their duties with commitment, sincerity, and accountability.
The minister instructed the Health Department to strengthen measures to prevent seasonal diseases during the monsoon. He said steps are being taken to address the shortage of doctors through temporary appointments and, if necessary, by engaging retired medical professionals.
Khader also directed officials to maintain sufficient fodder stocks for livestock for the next 41 weeks. He asked the Revenue and Agriculture departments to jointly assess crop losses caused by drought and submit a detailed report.
Expressing concern over sewage water entering the premises of the Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple, the minister instructed officials to consult experts and implement a permanent solution to the problem.
Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmipriya informed the meeting that the district administration has completed all necessary preparations to deal with natural disasters. She said 24 hour control rooms have been activated and 294 relief centres have been kept ready across the district.MLAs, public representatives, and senior officials from various departments were present at the meeting.
