Public Support Essential for Population Control and UCC, Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat
Bhagwat stresses social harmony, public awareness, and an end to caste based politics during an event in Mysuru.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that population control measures and the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code can succeed only with public understanding and cooperation.
Speaking at an interaction session after delivering a lecture on “Social Harmony as a Catalyst for National Development” at JSS Mahavidyapeetha in Mysuru, Bhagwat highlighted the need for long term social thinking and unity among communities.
He said caste based politics continues because society itself still identifies strongly with caste divisions. According to him, political parties use caste as a tool to secure votes when they are unable to gain support through their work.
“Because society remembers caste, politicians take advantage of it,” Bhagwat said during the discussion.
Responding to questions about the proposed Population Control Bill and the Uniform Civil Code, he clarified that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is a social organisation and not part of the government.
He stressed that introducing laws alone would not be enough unless people were educated and actively supported the policies.
Bhagwat also referred to the population control measures enforced during the Emergency period, saying harsh implementation at that time had created public anger and political consequences.
Calling for greater harmony among religions and communities, he urged people to practise equality in everyday life through their actions rather than limiting it to slogans and speeches.
