Bhatkal: Concerns over the ongoing expansion work of National Highway 66 were once again raised during the visit of Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya to Bhatkal.

Representatives of Majlis Islah Wa Tanzim and Bhatkal Horata Samiti met the Deputy Commissioner and highlighted the difficulties being faced by the public due to the highway development work.

During the meeting, the delegation expressed strong concern over the rapid progress of the highway expansion without the construction of proper service roads. They warned that the situation could create serious transportation problems for local residents in the near future.The representatives also pointed out the absence of a proper drainage system along the expanded highway stretch.

According to them, the highway level has been raised considerably above ground level, increasing the risk of rainwater accumulation on surrounding roads during the monsoon season. They said this could pose a serious danger to pedestrians and two wheeler riders and may lead to accidents.

Bhatkal Honnavar MLA and District Incharge Minister Mankal Vaidya was also present during the discussion. He directed the concerned officials to address public grievances without delay and stressed that there is no shortage of funds for development works.


The minister instructed authorities to complete all necessary safety measures and resolve public issues on a priority basis before the arrival of the monsoon season.


Several community leaders and public representatives attended the meeting, including Inayatullah Shahbandari, Maulana Abdul Raqeeb Nadvi, Maulana Azizur Rahman Nadvi, Imshad Mukhtasar, Irshad, Syed Ali, Jilani Shahbandari, Altaf Kharuri, Qaiser Mohtasham, and Satish Kumar.
