PSI Suspended and Eight Police Personnel Transferred After Rowdy’s Street Rampage in Haliyal

Haliyal: The Uttara Kannada Police Department has initiated disciplinary action against police personnel following an incident in which a notorious local rowdy allegedly attacked officers and created a public disturbance in Haliyal.

As part of the action, Haliyal Police Station PSI Basavaraj has been suspended with immediate effect for alleged negligence in duty and failure to maintain law and order during the incident. Eight other police personnel attached to the station have been transferred to different locations. A notice has also been issued to the concerned Circle Police Inspector as part of an internal departmental inquiry.

The action was ordered by Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Deepak M.N., who has directed a detailed investigation into the matter.

According to reports, the incident took place late on Sunday night near Maurya Bar and Restaurant in Haliyal. A man identified as Manja, known locally as a rowdy, was allegedly creating a disturbance on the road while under the influence of alcohol.

After receiving information from local residents, police personnel Nandish and Ashok arrived at the scene. It is alleged that Manja obstructed the officers, assaulted them, and threatened them with serious consequences.

PSI Basavaraj later reached the spot after being informed about the situation. However, authorities found that he failed to effectively control the situation and did not take timely action against the accused.

Police officials have treated the lapse seriously and have launched a departmental inquiry. According to the Superintendent of Police, further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Meanwhile, legal proceedings against Manja for the alleged assault on police personnel are continuing. The incident has attracted significant public attention and has become a widely discussed issue in both official and public circles.
