Power Outage Hits Bhatkal With Season’s First Rain, Residents Express Concern

Bhatkal: The season’s first rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Bhatkal on Wednesday night around 8 pm, but the rainfall also exposed major concerns over the town’s electricity system.

As soon as the rain began, power supply was disrupted across several parts of the town, leaving many areas in complete darkness. At the time of reporting, electricity had still not been restored in many localities, causing inconvenience to residents.

The sudden outage during the very first pre monsoon rain has increased public concern about how the electricity network will function during the full monsoon season. Residents said that if the system fails during a light early rain, the situation could become far more difficult during heavy seasonal rains.

For the past several weeks, electricity supply in Bhatkal has frequently been interrupted due to ongoing repair and maintenance work. The electricity department had repeatedly claimed that efforts were being made to improve power lines and strengthen the system ahead of the rains.

However, citizens say the first rainfall itself has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of those repair works. Many residents questioned why the system collapsed so quickly despite repeated maintenance efforts.

People also pointed out that constant power cuts are badly affecting households, businesses, and students preparing for studies and examinations.

Residents have now urged the concerned department to take immediate and effective measures before the arrival of the monsoon so that the public does not continue to face repeated hardships during the rainy season.
