Police in Murudeshwar have intensified action against overspeeding vehicles on National Highway 66 and registered cases against eight motorists for violating speed regulations.

During a special enforcement drive conducted near Bailur Cross on Saturday, police used a speed radar gun to detect vehicles travelling at speeds exceeding 100 kmph. Eight cars were found violating the prescribed speed limits and their drivers were booked under traffic regulations.

Each violator was imposed a fine of ₹1,000, which was collected on the spot.The operation was carried out under the leadership of Murudeshwar Police Station Sub Inspector Hanamant Biradar along with police personnel.

According to police officials, the permitted speed limit on the Murudeshwar stretch of the national highway ranges between 80 and 90 kmph. Authorities stated that continuous monitoring through speed radar guns is being undertaken to prevent accidents caused by reckless driving.

Police have appealed to motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations and adhere to the prescribed speed limits, noting that overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of road accidents.
