Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada District In charge Minister Laxman Savadi has called for a permanent and scientific solution to the coastal erosion affecting Harawada village in Ankola taluk.

During his visit to the erosion affected area on Thursday, the minister inspected the damage, interacted with local residents, and reviewed the situation with officials from various departments.

Savadi said a scientifically designed sea protection wall is essential to prevent further coastal erosion. He warned that without permanent measures, more houses and agricultural land could be lost to the sea in the coming years. He directed officials to take immediate steps to safeguard the lives and property of people living along the coast.

Residents told the minister that coastal erosion had occurred this year despite relatively lower rainfall, weaker winds, and less severe sea conditions compared with previous years. They said several houses near the shoreline are at risk and that the problem returns every monsoon season.

The villagers also expressed disappointment that although the Chief Minister and several ministers had visited the area in the past, a lasting solution has yet to be implemented.

Among those present during the inspection were Karnataka State Marketing Communication and Advertising Agency Limited Chairman and Karwar MLA Satish K. Sail, Sirsi Siddapur MLA Bhimanna T. Naik, Yellapur MLA Arabail Shivaram Hebbar, Kumta MLA Dinakar Shetty, MLC Ganapati Ulvekar, District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority Chairman Satish Naik, Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmipriya, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dileesh Shashi, and officials from various government departments.
