Passport Seva Server Down Across India, Hundreds of Applicants Stranded in Mangaluru
Technical glitches disrupt appointments and rescheduling, leaving applicants from distant districts waiting for hours without basic facilities.
A technical issue affecting the Passport Seva portal has disrupted passport services across several parts of India, leaving thousands of applicants unable to book, reschedule or process their appointments.
The server problem has reportedly affected Passport Seva Kendras and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras in several cities. Some applicants have also reported that their scheduled appointments were automatically cancelled, prompting frustration and complaints on social media.
No prior information to applicants
The issue has reportedly been affecting services since August 10. However, applicants have complained that they were not given adequate advance information about the disruption.The lack of clear communication has caused difficulties for applicants across Karnataka, including those travelling to Bengaluru and Mangaluru for document verification and other passport related procedures.
Applicants from distant districts left waiting
The situation was particularly difficult at the passport office near Navabharath Circle in Mangaluru, where more than 600 applicants reportedly arrived from places including Chikkamagaluru, Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Thirthahalli and Shivamogga.Many had travelled more than 250 kilometres for their appointments and were forced to wait for hours amid the disruption.
Applicants alleged that adequate seating, drinking water and ventilation facilities were not available. With limited facilities inside the premises, several people were reportedly left waiting outside the building.
Frustrated applicants also questioned the response of the officials, alleging that they were not given clear information about when the server problem would be resolved.
Some applicants claimed that security personnel were informing them about the technical issue and asking them to reschedule their appointments.
Applicants also expressed concern over the limited number of opportunities available for rescheduling and the possibility of having to submit a fresh application and pay the applicable fee if their appointment could not be processed.
As the situation became increasingly tense, police personnel were deployed at the Mangaluru Passport Seva Kendra to maintain order.
Applicants have urged the authorities to provide clear information about the technical problem, protect existing appointments and ensure proper arrangements for those who have travelled long distances for passport services.
