NH 66 Expansion in Bhatkal Continues Without Service Roads, Public Faces Hardship

The widening of National Highway 66 in Bhatkal is progressing rapidly, but the absence of service roads has left residents struggling with daily difficulties. Construction work is currently underway around Shamsuddin Circle, the KSRTC bus stand, and Noor Masjid.
Despite the scale of the project, locals say essential infrastructure like service roads has not been provided, making movement difficult for pedestrians, shopkeepers, and residents. Many are finding it increasingly challenging to manage their daily routines amid the ongoing work.
According to residents, the highway expansion project has been ongoing for nearly thirteen years. During this time, authorities had repeatedly assured that service roads would be constructed. However, people say the reality on the ground is very different, as work continues without these basic provisions.
Shopkeepers and local residents have also reported that their businesses are suffering due to road digging, dust, and the movement of heavy machinery. Traffic in the area has become disorganized, adding to the inconvenience.
Safety has become a major concern, with several spots posing a risk of accidents. Crossing the road has become particularly difficult for children, elderly people, and women.
