Mandla Mandela urges global support for Palestinians as he joins humanitarian flotilla to Gaza.

Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mandla Mandela, has said the suffering Palestinians endure under Israeli occupation is a “far worse form of apartheid” than what Black South Africans faced during apartheid. Speaking to Reuters, the 51-year-old activist stressed that those who visit the occupied Palestinian territories return convinced of this harsh reality.

Mandela called on the international community to continue supporting Palestinians, drawing parallels to the global solidarity that aided South Africa’s liberation struggle. He is currently traveling to Tunisia to join the Global Sumud Flotilla, a coalition of dozens of boats carrying food and humanitarian supplies to Gaza.

Among the flotilla participants are 10 South African activists and hundreds of people from 44 countries, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg. South Africa’s African National Congress echoed Mandela’s sentiments, saying the flotilla’s mission “echoes our own struggle for liberation”.
