NEET Paper Leak Protest Is About India’s Future, Says Karnataka CM D.K. Shivakumar
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar says the NEET controversy goes beyond politics, calls for accountability, and backs students' right to peaceful protest.
Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has voiced strong support for the nationwide protests over the alleged NEET UG paper leak, saying the issue is not about politics but about protecting the future of millions of students across the country.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said students and parents have been left anxious by repeated examination controversies. Referring to reports of more than 100 question paper leaks in different examinations, he warned that such incidents could damage India’s reputation as a country known for its skilled and talented youth.
He questioned the Union government’s handling of the issue and said stronger action should have been taken much earlier. Shivakumar urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond decisively and called for greater accountability over the examination system.
The Chief Minister also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, saying there should be no attempt to shield those responsible. He maintained that everyone found accountable for lapses in the examination process should face action.
Backing the students’ right to peaceful protest, Shivakumar criticised the use of force against demonstrators in New Delhi and other places. He condemned the police action, including lathi charges, and said the focus should remain on addressing the concerns of students rather than suppressing protests.
Commenting on the recent clashes between Congress and BJP workers in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said he did not support violence. However, he added that the incidents should be viewed in the context of the widespread public anger over the impact of the examination controversy on the future of young people.
