Mother Takes Her Life in Jhansi After Son’s Smartphone Addiction Causes Distress
A 38-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district died by suicide after struggling with her teenage son's excessive use of mobile phones and video games.
A tragic incident has been reported from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman allegedly ended her life due to constant worry over her 13-year-old son’s smartphone addiction.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Raksa area of Jhansi. Sheela Devi, 38, was found dead in her rented home. According to police, she had been deeply troubled by her son’s excessive screen time and his lack of interest in studies.
Sheela’s husband, Ravindra Pratap Singh, works at a private bank. Family members told police that Sheela had repeatedly asked her son to reduce his time spent on mobile games and television. She wanted him to focus on his education instead. However, despite her constant requests, the boy continued spending hours on his phone.
On Tuesday night, Sheela allegedly hanged herself in a room of the house. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Station House Officer (SHO) Rupesh Kumar confirmed the incident and said that preliminary investigations suggest the woman took the extreme step due to stress caused by her son’s mobile phone usage.
“No formal complaint has been filed by the family yet. We have sent the body for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is currently underway,” Kumar said.
The incident has once again brought attention to the growing concerns about smartphone addiction among children and its impact on families.
