Massive Protest Planned in Yellapur on November 3 Against Western Ghats Projects
Organisers expect over 15,000 participants in a demonstration opposing river linking projects and demanding the protection of the Western Ghats and Uttara Kannada district.

Yellapur (Fikrokhabar News): A large scale protest will be held in Yellapur on Tuesday, November 3, against development projects that organisers say could affect the natural environment of the Western Ghats and the lives of people in Uttara Kannada district.
The protest, organised under the slogan “Save the Western Ghats, Save Uttara Kannada”, is expected to draw more than 15,000 participants. The organisers have also announced a road blockade on the National Highway as part of the demonstration.
The main objective of the protest is to oppose the proposed linking of the Bedti (Gangavali) and Varada rivers, as well as the proposed project to link the Aghanashini and Vedavathi rivers. The protest committee is demanding that the government withdraw both projects completely.
According to the organisers, public awareness about the possible environmental and social impact of these projects is essential, as they believe the plans could affect the Western Ghats ecosystem and the livelihoods of people in Uttara Kannada.
As per the programme schedule, a public meeting will be held at the TMS Supermarket ground in Yellapur at 10 am. A protest march will begin at 11 am from the venue.
The procession will pass through Bus Stand Circle, Bell Road, Shivaji Chowk and Subhagiri Circle before proceeding towards the National Highway.
During the march, participants will present bhajans, traditional folk songs, environmental awareness songs and themed tableaux to highlight the importance of protecting nature.
The procession will reach the National Highway near Sankalp Hotel, where the organisers have announced a road blockade as part of the protest.
