Massive Fire in Udupi Commercial Building Causes Losses Worth Rs 2.5 Crore
Electrical short circuit suspected as blaze destroys multiple shops near City Bus Stand

A major fire that broke out in a commercial building near the City Bus Stand in Udupi on Sunday evening has caused losses estimated at around Rs 2.5 crore.
According to initial reports, the fire is believed to have started due to an electrical short circuit in a plastic goods storage unit owned by a businessman named Bhima, who hails from Rajasthan. The flames quickly spread, completely destroying his plastic goods shop and mobile store, both located in the same building.
The fire also affected nearby establishments, with at least two to three adjoining shops suffering significant damage. The intensity of the blaze led to widespread destruction, leaving several businesses badly impacted.
Fire and emergency service teams rushed to the spot and began operations on Sunday evening. Although the fire was largely brought under control by late night, it continued to flare up intermittently until around 7 am on Monday. Personnel remained on site throughout the night to contain the flames and prevent further spread.
The incident reduced four shops belonging to the same owner to ashes. In addition to the loss of goods, the structure of the building and its shutters were also severely damaged.
The shop owner, Bhima, was reportedly in deep shock following the incident and fell seriously ill. He was later admitted to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
