A community awareness program and training workshop was held in Bhatkal on Sunday, organised by Majlis Islah Wa Tanzeem, focusing on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls currently underway across Karnataka.

Experts at the event raised serious concerns about the revision process, warning that a large number of eligible citizens risk being dropped from voter lists if proper precautions are not taken. Participants were urged to use the mapping process to verify and confirm their registration before it is too late.

Trainers from Bengaluru, representing the “Mera Vote Mera Haq” campaign, along with PUCL representative Aishwarya, conducted hands on sessions for volunteers. They walked attendees through the technical steps of voter mapping and list verification, making sure everyone understood the process clearly.

Special attention was drawn to groups most at risk of being left out, including women, migrant workers, and marginalised communities. Speakers stressed that no eligible voter should be excluded, and that targeted outreach in these communities is essential.

At the event, it was formally announced that protests will be held across Karnataka on April 15 to highlight the flaws in the SIR process and push back against what organisers described as deliberate efforts to target specific communities. A memorandum is also set to be submitted to the government on the same day.

Volunteers from various localities attended the workshop and were briefed on booth level strategies and how to set up guidance centres to help residents with the registration process.

The program was chaired by Majlis Islah Wa Tanzeem president Inayatullah Shabandri, and several local representatives also addressed the gathering.
