Bhatkal: Election activities for the prestigious century old institution Majlis e Islah Wa Tanzeem have intensified ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for May 12. This year, a major shift in leadership is expected, with indications that more than 50 percent of the new administration could consist of fresh faces.
According to Election Commissioner Mohiuddin Altaf Kharuri, 15 members have already been elected unopposed from 7 constituencies, including constituencies number 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, and 15.
Polling will now take place in the remaining 9 constituencies on May 12, where candidates have stepped up their campaigning efforts.

The most closely watched contest is in Constituency Number 14, which includes areas such as Kargede, Shifa Colony, Housing Board, Gol Masjid, Horli Sal, Maryam Ali Colony, Makkah Colony, and Main Road. The constituency has 232 voters and 10 candidates in the fray, including current Tanzeem President Inayatullah Shah Bandari. Only 5 members will be elected from this constituency.
Constituency Number 2 has emerged as the largest constituency with 246 voters. It includes Khalifa Mohalla, Siddique Street, Dongarpalli, and Darnata areas, where 6 candidates are contesting the elections.

Similarly, Constituency Number 13, covering Azad Nagar, is also witnessing an active contest with 6 candidates competing for the support of 210 voters.
Election Commissioner Mohiuddin Altaf Kharuri stated that a total of 45 members are to be elected from all 16 constituencies of the organisation. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers was fixed for May 5, during which several candidates withdrew from the race, leading to the unopposed selection of candidates in seven constituencies.

Voting will be held on Tuesday, May 12, from 9 am to 5 pm. Counting of votes will begin immediately after polling concludes, while the official results are expected to be announced on May 14.
