Low Flying Aircraft in Uttara Kannada Part of Scientific Survey, Says District Administration
Authorities clarify that the aircraft activity is linked to a mineral exploration survey and there is no need for public concern.

Karwar: The sight of a low flying aircraft across several parts of Uttara Kannada district over the past few days has created curiosity and concern among residents. Responding to the public reaction, the district administration has clarified that the flights are part of a scientific survey being conducted to identify underground mineral resources.
According to officials, the survey is being carried out by the Geological Survey of India based in Bengaluru under the National Airborne Geophysical Mapping Programme. The main objective of the project is to collect scientific data that can help locate valuable mineral deposits hidden beneath the earth’s surface.
The aircraft used for the operation is equipped with advanced scientific instruments designed to gather geological information from deep underground. The survey covers selected regions of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, with Uttara Kannada district falling under Block 7 of the project area.
Authorities said that the data collected during the survey will later be uploaded to the National Geoscience Data Repository portal. This information is expected to support government agencies, private mineral exploration companies, and researchers in the future.
The district administration also warned the public against spreading or believing rumours related to the low altitude flights. Officials stated that misleading information may circulate on social media due to the unusual aircraft activity.
In its official statement, the administration clarified that the operation is purely a government approved scientific survey and there is no reason for people living in nearby areas to panic. Citizens have been requested to cooperate with the ongoing work.
