Kumta: Continuous heavy rain caused a landslide at Devimane Ghat on National Highway 766E in Kumta taluk, with soil and debris falling onto the road.

The incident occurred after persistent overnight rain in the ghat section. Part of the hillside gave way, leaving mud on the highway and raising concerns for motorists as more soil was reportedly still loose.

After receiving information about the incident, highway authority officials and workers from RNS, the company involved in the highway widening project, reached the spot.

The teams cleared the mud and debris from the road, restoring normal movement.

The affected stretch of Devimane Ghat is now open to traffic. However, motorists travelling through the ghat section have been advised to remain cautious due to the continuing rainfall and the possibility of further landslides.

A similar landslide had occurred in the same area a few months ago, causing disruption to traffic. The latest incident has once again raised concerns about the impact of persistent rain on the hillside.
