Landslide Blocks Gokarna–Tadadi Road Amid Heavy Rains; Traffic Completely Suspended

Kumta: Heavy rainfall since last night has triggered a landslide on the Gokarna–Tadadi road in Kumta taluk, bringing vehicular movement on the route to a complete halt.
A large quantity of mud and massive boulders slid onto the road, temporarily disrupting connectivity between Gokarna and Tadadi. In view of safety concerns, authorities have suspended all vehicular traffic on this stretch until further notice.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, officials from the Revenue Department and other concerned authorities rushed to the spot to assess the situation and oversee relief measures.
Efforts are currently underway to clear the debris and restore normal traffic movement at the earliest. However, officials have stated that traffic will be allowed only after the road is declared completely safe for commuters.
With heavy rains continuing across Uttara Kannada district, the risk of further landslides remains high, particularly in hilly regions. The district administration has advised motorists and residents to exercise caution while travelling through vulnerable areas.
Authorities have also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and make use of alternative routes until normalcy is restored.
In view of the heavy rainfall continuing across Ankola taluk, the district administration has declared a holiday for all Anganwadi centres, primary schools, and high schools in the taluk today July 17.
