Konkan Railway Honours Ganapati Naik With ₹10,000 Reward for Saving Passenger’s Life at Murudeshwar Station
The pointsman was recognized for his swift action and presence of mind that prevented a major tragedy at Murudeshwar railway station

Murudeshwar: Konkan Railway has honoured Pointsman Ganapati Naik with a cash reward of ₹10,000 for his courageous act in saving the life of a young passenger at Murudeshwar railway station.
The award, announced on behalf of Konkan Railway Chairman and Managing Director Santosh Kumar Jha, was presented by officials of the Karwar division in recognition of Naik’s exemplary service and dedication to passenger safety.
The incident took place on Sunday morning at around 7:56 am when 22 year old Mohammed Ghafoor attempted to get down from the moving Train No. 16312 while it was departing from Murudeshwar station. In the process, he lost his balance and was dragged dangerously close to the gap between the train and the platform.
Observing the incident, Ganapati Naik immediately rushed towards the passenger and firmly held him, preventing him from falling under the train. He ensured the passenger’s safety until the train moved ahead, thereby averting what could have been a fatal accident.
According to railway officials, Naik’s timely intervention, courage and commitment to duty reflect the highest standards of railway safety services.
The entire incident was captured on the station’s CCTV cameras, and the video has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread appreciation from the public and railway passengers.
Konkan Railway’s Mangaluru Division Public Relations Manager K. Sudha Krishnamurthy stated that Ganapati Naik’s heroic action has brought pride to the entire railway department and serves as an inspiring example of dedication and alertness in public service.
