Karnataka Plans to Reintroduce Bike Ambulance Service to Improve Emergency Response
Health Minister U.T. Khader says the government is considering bike ambulances to ensure faster medical assistance in traffic congested and remote areas.
The Karnataka government is preparing to bring back the bike ambulance service as part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare and reduce response times across the state.
Health Minister U.T. Khader announced that discussions on the proposal will begin soon, with the aim of improving access to urgent medical care, particularly in areas where conventional ambulances face delays.
The minister said similar services are already functioning successfully in several states and cities across the country. Drawing from those experiences, Karnataka is exploring the possibility of introducing a dedicated bike ambulance network to handle emergency situations more efficiently.
According to Khader, the initiative is intended to address challenges caused by heavy traffic in urban centers as well as accessibility issues in rural regions. A high level meeting will be held to examine the proposal in detail before a final decision is made.
Officials will assess the technical requirements, operational framework, and management aspects of the project before moving ahead with implementation.
Sources in the Health Department said the service could play a crucial role in providing immediate first aid and ensuring quicker transportation of patients to hospitals during emergencies.
The proposed bike ambulances are expected to be equipped with essential medical supplies for emergency care. Trained personnel would be deployed on the vehicles to reach patients quickly and provide initial treatment until further medical assistance becomes available.
