Bengaluru: Senior Karnataka minister and veteran Congress leader K H Muniyappa has openly acknowledged that he is seeking the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the state government. He revealed that he recently discussed the matter with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leader Rahul Gandhi during meetings held in New Delhi.

Muniyappa’s remarks come just days after he publicly expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as a lack of recognition for senior leaders within the party. However, following a detailed meeting with Rahul Gandhi, his tone appeared more conciliatory.

Speaking to the media, Muniyappa said he was satisfied with the assurances given by Rahul Gandhi and had full faith in the party leadership’s decision.

When asked directly whether he aspired to become Deputy Chief Minister, Muniyappa confirmed that he had formally conveyed his request to both Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. He added that the final decision now rests with the Congress high command.

According to Muniyappa, Rahul Gandhi assured him that the leadership would carefully consider all concerns and advised him to continue working actively for the party. He said he had left the matter entirely in the hands of the leadership and expressed confidence that senior leaders would receive the respect and recognition they deserve.

Party sources indicated that Muniyappa also raised concerns about representation within the Scheduled Caste community. Belonging to the SC Left community, he reportedly argued that adequate balance should be maintained among different Dalit groups in government appointments.

Sources further stated that Muniyappa pointed out that senior leader G Parameshwara, who belongs to the SC Right community, already holds a prominent position in the cabinet. Ignoring other sections of the Dalit community, he reportedly warned, could send the wrong message to voters.

In addition to seeking the Deputy Chief Minister’s post, Muniyappa is also said to have expressed interest in handling more people oriented departments. Reports suggest he would prefer portfolios such as Social Welfare, Agriculture, or Water Resources, believing these ministries would allow him to contribute more directly to public welfare and development.

His latest demand adds a new dimension to the ongoing discussions over power sharing and representation within the Karnataka Congress government.
