Karnataka Extends Gruha Jyothi Verification Deadline to October 31
Beneficiaries get another month to complete document re verification as electricity officials work to clear pending cases

Bengaluru (Fikrokhabar News): The Karnataka government has extended the deadline for re verification of beneficiaries under the Gruha Jyothi free electricity scheme until October 31, 2026, giving homeowners and tenants additional time to complete the process.
The extension follows requests from electricity supply companies to complete the verification of registered households and update beneficiary details on the Seva Sindhu portal. The door to door exercise began on July 1, with September 30 set as the original deadline.
The verification drive aims to ensure that scheme benefits reach eligible households with active electricity connections. Officials have identified discrepancies involving deceased beneficiaries, tenants who have moved to other properties, outdated ownership records and changes in property details.
Additional time has been provided to address cases involving locked or vacant houses, unavailable beneficiaries and households where residents have not provided the required information. Properties with permanently disconnected electricity connections and rooftop solar installations are also part of the verification exercise.
During visits, meter readers and other electricity supply company staff collect information and documents from homeowners or tenants and update the records on the Seva Sindhu portal. The process includes checking ration card and voter identity card details, the beneficiary’s photograph, occupation and income tax status, property tax records and other relevant information.
Beneficiaries who have not completed verification are advised to cooperate with officials and provide accurate details before the revised deadline.
If a house is found locked, officials may make up to three visits at different times. They will record the property’s GPS location, and an SMS containing the meter reader’s name and contact number will be sent to the registered mobile number. Beneficiaries can then contact the concerned official to arrange verification. If the registered beneficiary is unavailable, an adult family member may be able to complete the required declaration, subject to the applicable instructions.
The extension provides additional time for households with pending verification to update their records and avoid complications with their scheme registration. Beneficiaries are advised to respond promptly to verification requests and follow instructions issued by their respective electricity supply companies.
