Karnataka CM Announces AI and Coding Programmes for Schools Across State

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced a series of new education initiatives aimed at preparing school students for a technology driven future.

Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations at the Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru, Shivakumar unveiled two key programmes, AI Akshara Abhiyana and Coding Gurukula.

Under the new plan, Artificial Intelligence education will become part of the school curriculum from Class 6 onwards. The government also plans to provide free Coding Gurukula classes, giving students across Karnataka an opportunity to learn coding and AI skills.

The initiatives are intended to expand access to digital education and help reduce the gap between students from different regions and backgrounds.

Shivakumar said the government also wants to position Karnataka as a leading AI hub in India. As part of this vision, the state plans to establish India’s first public and government owned AI University in Bengaluru.

The government is also planning specialised AI certificate courses and AI Hubs across the state to create more opportunities for students and young professionals to develop skills in emerging technologies.

In another major education initiative, the state plans to upgrade 1,000 government schools into modern Karnataka Public Schools over the next two years.

These upgraded schools are expected to feature digital classrooms, bilingual education and facilities covering the entire journey from LKG to Class 12 under one campus.

The announcements are part of the state government’s broader effort to expand technology based education and provide students with skills suited to the changing job market.
