Iran Shoots Down US Fighter Jets as American Forces Race to Rescue Missing Pilot
Tehran claims to have downed two American warplanes, with one crew member still missing as Iranian forces hunt for him on the ground and President Trump acknowledges the situation as war.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have reached a dangerous new peak. Iranian forces have shot down two American warplanes, and a frantic search is now underway for a missing pilot.
The first aircraft, a two seat F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet, was struck by Iranian fire over the country’s airspace . A second plane, an A 10 Warthog ground attack aircraft, was also hit and went down near the strategic Strait of Hormuz .
US special forces have successfully rescued two crew members from the downed aircraft. One of them is receiving medical treatment in American custody . However, the fate of the second crew member from the F-15 remains unknown. He is still missing, and Iranian forces are actively hunting for him on the ground.
Iranian authorities have called on local residents, particularly in tribal and rural areas, to help locate what they call enemy pilots . A governor in southwestern Iran has promised a formal commendation for anyone who captures or neutralises hostile forces . State affiliated media has even suggested a valuable reward would be given to anyone who captures a crew member alive .
The downing of the jets is a major embarrassment for the United States. It comes just days after President Donald Trump declared that Iran’s air defences had been annihilated and that the country was no longer a threat . Iranian military spokespersons have celebrated the incident as proof that American claims of total air superiority are false .
The search for the missing pilot has become a high stakes race. Two American Black Hawk helicopters involved in the rescue mission were also hit by Iranian fire but managed to leave Iranian airspace and land safely .
President Trump has acknowledged the severity of the situation. In an interview with NBC News, he stated that the loss of the aircraft would not affect any potential negotiations with Iran, adding plainly, “No, it’s war. We’re in war” .
The conflict began more than a month ago with US and Israeli strikes on Iran that killed the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei . Since then, the fighting has spread across the Middle East, impacting global energy supplies and causing widespread civilian casualties.
