New Delhi: Leaders of the opposition alliance INDIA Bloc gathered at Constitution Club in New Delhi on Monday for a high level meeting to discuss the country’s political climate, concerns surrounding the education system, and the state of the economy.

Despite recent differences among some alliance partners, the meeting reflected a renewed sense of unity as opposition parties sought to strengthen their collective response to the Narendra Modi government. Addressing the media after the meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced several decisions taken unanimously by the participating leaders, including a demand for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Opposition leaders expressed serious concern over alleged irregularities in national examinations, including NEET, CBSE, and other major tests. They pointed to reports of paper leaks, flaws in the evaluation process, and administrative failures that they believe have put the future of millions of students at risk. According to the alliance, the Education Ministry must be held accountable for these issues, and they argued that the minister should step down from his post.

The leaders also referred to recent protests by students and youth groups at Jantar Mantar, stating that the opposition would continue to support demands for transparency and justice both inside Parliament and through public campaigns.

The meeting further focused on issues affecting ordinary citizens, particularly unemployment and rising prices. Kharge said that all alliance partners agreed to send a joint letter to the Chief Justice of India regarding concerns over electoral rolls, alleged voter irregularities, and the Special Intensive Revision process. The opposition said the move aims to safeguard democratic institutions and protect citizens’ voting rights.

Economic challenges were another major topic of discussion. The alliance called on the central government to convene an all party meeting to address what it described as the country’s worsening economic situation and to facilitate broader discussions on possible solutions.

Several prominent opposition leaders attended the meeting, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti. Left leaders D Raja and John Brittas were also present. NCP leader Supriya Sule and representatives of several regional parties participated in the discussions, while Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray joined virtually.

The leaders also reviewed the political landscape following recent assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Despite the absence of some allies, participants stressed the importance of strengthening the INDIA Bloc in preparation for future state elections and the 2029 general election.

As part of its future strategy, the alliance decided to hold formal meetings every two months to improve coordination on national and regional issues. Leaders also pledged to maintain close cooperation during parliamentary sessions through regular consultations and coordinated action aimed at presenting a united challenge to the government.
