Karwar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Uttara Kannada district from June 9 to June 11, warning of extremely heavy rainfall across the region.

The alert also covers the districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru, where intense monsoon activity is expected over the next few days. Authorities have advised residents in these areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by local & District administrations.

In addition, an Orange Alert has been issued for Gadag, Haveri, Davanagere, Dharwad, and Kodagu districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Disaster management authorities and district administrations have been placed on high alert, with precautionary measures being strengthened in areas vulnerable to flooding, landslides, and waterlogging. Residents living near rivers, low lying areas, and landslide prone zones have been urged to exercise caution.

Officials have also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during the warning period due to rough weather conditions and strong winds along the Karnataka coast.

The IMD continues to monitor the monsoon system closely and has urged the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and emergency advisories.
