High-Voltage Power Surge Damages Household Appliances in Shirwad; Losses Worth Lakhs Reported
Sudden voltage fluctuation in Bangarappa Nagar destroys electronic appliances in several homes, leaving residents demanding compensation and preventive measures.
A sudden high-voltage power surge caused extensive damage to household electrical and electronic appliances in several homes at Bangarappa Nagar in Shirwad village of Karwar taluk, resulting in losses worth lakhs of rupees.
According to residents, the unexpected voltage fluctuation led to short circuits, damaging televisions, refrigerators, fans, mixers, mobile chargers, and several other electrical devices. In some houses, wiring emitted loud noises and smoke, triggering panic among residents, who rushed out of their homes fearing a major accident.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. However, the incident has caused severe financial losses to many poor and middle-class families, with numerous household appliances being destroyed within moments.
Local residents immediately informed HESCOM officials about the incident and demanded a thorough technical investigation into the exact cause of the power surge.
Residents have urged the government and HESCOM authorities to provide adequate compensation to the affected families. They have also called for permanent technical measures to prevent similar high-voltage incidents from recurring in the future.
