Continuous heavy monsoon rains have disrupted normal life across several parts of Karnataka, prompting district administrations to declare holidays for schools and Anganwadi centres as a precautionary measure.

In Chikkamagaluru district, all Anganwadi centres, primary schools, and high schools remained closed in Koppa, Sringeri, and Mudigere taluks due to persistent rainfall and concerns over student safety.

A similar order was issued in Shivamogga district, where educational institutions in Thirthahalli, Sagara, and Bhadravathi taluks were closed following heavy rain and forecasts of continued adverse weather.

The precautionary closures come amid concerns over waterlogged roads, overflowing streams, landslides, and the possibility of falling trees in the ecologically sensitive Malnad region. District administrations said the situation is being monitored closely and further decisions will be taken based on weather conditions.

Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in low lying and vulnerable areas, to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. Parents have also been urged to ensure that children stay away from flooded rivers, lakes, and streams.

Meanwhile, holidays have also been declared for schools in Belagavi, Khanapur, and Nippani on July 8 due to heavy rain. In Dakshina Kannada, the Deputy Commissioner has announced a holiday on July 8 for all schools and Pre University colleges in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across the Malnad and coastal regions of Karnataka as the southwest monsoon remains active.
