Heavy Rain Forecast in Uttara Kannada From June 6; District Administration Issues High Alert and Emergency Helpline Numbers
Authorities complete monsoon preparedness measures as heavy rainfall is expected across the district from June 6 to June 10.

Karwar: The Uttara Kannada district administration has issued a high alert following forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre predicting heavy rainfall across the district in the coming days.
According to the weather forecast, moderate rainfall is expected on June 4 and June 5, while heavy rain is likely between June 6 and June 10. In response, the district administration and the District Disaster Management Authority have completed extensive pre monsoon preparations to ensure public safety.
A total of 294 relief and care centres have been identified across the district to accommodate people affected by rain related emergencies. Nodal officers have been appointed for each centre to ensure smooth management and coordination.
Based on a report from the Geological Survey of India, 439 landslide prone locations have been identified in Uttara Kannada district. Special spotters are being appointed and trained to continuously monitor these vulnerable areas and provide timely warnings.
The first phase of cleaning major drainage systems across the district has already been completed through local bodies. Further action will be taken depending on the intensity of rainfall during the monsoon season.
The administration has also directed department heads to ensure the safety of all government schools, anganwadi centres, primary health centres, and student hostels. To address possible disruptions in electricity and communication services during heavy rains, HESCOM and BSNL have been instructed to remain fully prepared with backup equipment and emergency response systems.
District and taluk level disaster management centres will operate round the clock to handle emergencies. The district administration has urged residents to follow official weather advisories and prioritize safety while carrying out daily activities.
