Strong winds, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible flooding could disrupt normal life in several parts of the country.

New Delhi: With the monsoon gaining momentum across India, the India Meteorological Department has issued fresh weather warnings for large parts of the country. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected to affect 23 states, raising concerns about possible disruptions to daily life.
According to the weather department, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are likely to experience intense weather conditions over the next two days.
The department has warned that wind speeds may reach between 80 and 90 kilometres per hour in some areas. Along with heavy rain, several regions may witness lightning strikes, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms. In Madhya Pradesh, a yellow alert has already been issued for 35 districts, with authorities advised to remain prepared for any emergency situation.
The hill states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand are expected to see significant weather activity due to an active western disturbance. Officials have cautioned that heavy rainfall in these areas could trigger landslides, disrupt traffic, and lead to road closures.
In the northeastern states, strong winds may uproot trees and cause damage to houses and public infrastructure. Tourists and local residents in hilly regions have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to changing weather conditions.
The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms and hail in remote and high altitude areas of Kashmir and Ladakh. These conditions could lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures. Special alerts have been issued for key districts of Himachal Pradesh, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur.
Meanwhile, parts of western and central India, including Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, and Kutch, are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at several locations through the week.
Despite widespread monsoon activity, some parts of the country continue to face intense heat. The department has forecast heatwave conditions in parts of Bihar and Telangana, while eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Vidarbha region may continue to experience hot winds until midweek.
Residents of coastal Karnataka, Jharkhand, Konkan, and Goa are also likely to face hot and humid conditions during the daytime. However, temperatures across northwestern India are expected to fall gradually by around two degrees Celsius over the next couple of days, bringing some relief from the recent spell of extreme heat.
