Bhatkal: A vibrant Eid Milan and National Integration Mushaira was held in Bhatkal on April 15, bringing together literature lovers, scholars, and poets for an evening filled with culture, unity, and the beauty of Urdu language. The event was organized by the Karnataka Urdu Academy, Bengaluru, and took place at Aamna Palace.

The gathering saw a large audience, with speakers and poets captivating attendees through thoughtful speeches and soulful poetry. The atmosphere was lively, with continuous appreciation from the audience for each performance.

In his address, Maulana Mohammed Ilyas Nadvi spoke about the richness of the Urdu language. He noted that while Urdu may not be thriving in the regions where it originated, it continues to live strongly among communities that adopted it with love. He highlighted Bhatkal’s significant contribution to Urdu literature, mentioning that Jamia Islamia Bhatkal houses one of the largest Urdu libraries from Mangaluru to the Konkan region. He also pointed out that the town has received numerous recognitions from the Karnataka Urdu Academy despite its small size.

Chairman of the Karnataka Urdu Academy, Mufti Mohammed Ali Qazi, in his presidential speech, described Urdu as more than just a language, calling it a symbol of love, harmony, and humanity. He shared that the academy has organized over 78 programs across 31 districts in Karnataka and selected Bhatkal for this event due to its strong literary identity. He also emphasized the importance of promoting cultural harmony and announced plans to establish an Urdu Bhavan in Bhatkal.

The highlight of the evening was the mushaira, where renowned poets from different parts of the country presented their work. Among them were Dr Haneef Shabab, Prof Qadeer Nazim, Iqbal Saeedi, Sheikh Habeeb, Prof Riyaz Mahmood, Ibn Hasan Bhatkali, Sardar Saleem, Ahmed Bashma Sakhar, Dr Dawood Mohsin, Maulana Samaan Khalifa Nadvi, Siraj Sholapuri, Shareef Ahmed Shareef, Dr Natiq Alipuri, Aslam Bukhari, Anwar Khan Anwar, Rafiq Sarwar, Mohammed Tanveer Azeem, and Suhail Arshi.

Each poet brought a unique style, with verses touching on themes of love, unity, and social harmony. The audience responded with enthusiasm, making the event even more memorable.

It is also worth noting that students who scored full marks in Urdu were honored with special awards during the program.
