Minister directs officials to act on applications received under Praja Seva campaign without unnecessary delay
Kumta: Cooperation and Uttara Kannada District In charge Minister Laxman Savadi has directed officials to resolve applications received during the Praja Seva campaign within a maximum of 15 days.
He was speaking after inaugurating the taluk level Praja Seva campaign meeting held at the Halakki Community Hall in Deevagi, Kumta taluk, on Saturday.
Savadi said elected representatives and government officials must work with the understanding that they are servants of the people. He said the campaign was designed to take administration closer to citizens by visiting hobli level areas and listening to public grievances, in line with the vision of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
He instructed officials to resolve applications received during the campaign within 15 days. In cases where a request cannot be addressed within the legal framework, officials must provide the applicant with a clear written explanation. The government will not tolerate keeping applications pending without valid reasons, he warned.
The minister said he would personally review the progress of applications received at taluk and hobli levels during district level meetings and at the KDP meetings held every three months.
Savadi said people in Uttara Kannada are aware of their rights and present their demands respectfully. He stressed that it is the responsibility of officials to respond promptly and provide appropriate solutions.
Kumta MLA Dinakar K. Shetty said two Praja Seva campaigns had already been successfully conducted at the taluk level under the leadership of the Tahsildar. Efforts are now being made to address public issues at the district level, he said.
The MLA also raised the issue of poor families who have been living in forest areas of the district for several years but are facing difficulties in obtaining title documents and constructing houses. He urged the government to discuss the matter in the Cabinet and consider allowing eligible families to construct houses on three to five guntas of land, particularly those whose GPS surveys have already been completed.
Shetty also requested the establishment of a separate North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation subdivision covering Kumta, Bhatkal, Honnavar, Ankola and Karwar taluks. He said people in these areas currently face difficulties as the divisional office is located in Sirsi and added that a separate subdivision could also help address shortages in bus services.
He further requested the widening of the narrow Gokarna road.
A total of 412 applications related to various government departments were received from the public during the meeting. Benefits and job cards were also distributed to beneficiaries under various schemes of the Forest and Revenue Departments.
Savadi directed officials to resolve issues related to the National Highway within a limited timeframe and instructed that a separate meeting be conducted under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner to discuss the matter.
Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmipriya, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dileesh Shashi, Deputy Conservator of Forests Yogesh C.K., Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajid Mulla, Assistant Commissioner Shravan Kumar, ASP Ranu Gupta and officials from various departments were present at the meeting.
