Five Injured in Car Collision Near Venkatapura Bridge in Bhatkal
Timely deployment of airbags and use of seat belts helped passengers escape a major tragedy on NH 66.

Bhatkal: Five people were injured after two cars collided near the Venkatapura bridge on National Highway 66 in Bhatkal on Tuesday night.
The accident took place around 11 pm on May 19 when a car travelling from Bhatkal towards Honnavar reportedly went out of control near the bridge. The vehicle crossed towards the right side of the road and crashed into another car that was coming from Honnavar towards Bhatkal.
According to police, five members of the same family travelling in one of the cars sustained injuries in the collision. The injured have been identified as Fauzia, Mohammad Ashraf, Abdul Khader Ajwal, and Mohammad Asnan, all natives of Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district.
Officials said the injured suffered minor injuries and are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is said to be stable and not life threatening.
A major tragedy was avoided as passengers in both vehicles were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The airbags in the cars also deployed immediately, helping reduce the impact of the crash and preventing serious injuries.
Police from the Bhatkal Rural Police Station visited the spot and registered a case. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
