Election Commission Withdraws Notice Issued to Padma Shri Awardee Hari Edka Haji Abba
The notice was withdrawn after the issue gained widespread attention in the media and on social media.

Mangaluru: The Election Commission has withdrawn a notice issued to Padma Shri awardee and noted social worker Hari Edka Haji Abba over a discrepancy related to the spelling of his name during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
According to reports, the Election Commission had directed Hari Edka Haji Abba to appear before the authorities on September 11 with the necessary documents.
The matter gained attention after the notice was widely reported in the media and circulated on social media. Senior Election Commission officials subsequently took note of the issue, reviewed the matter and decided to withdraw the notice.
Speaking about the incident, Padma Shri Hari Edka Haji Abba said that officials from the concerned department visited his residence soon after news of the notice became public.
The officials collected the copy of the notice from him and informed him that the matter would be reviewed again. They also said they would contact him after completing the review.
Hari Edka Haji Abba expressed hope that the issue would be resolved quickly and without difficulty.
He pointed out that his name has consistently been recorded as “Hari Edka Haji Abba” in all his government documents and identity cards since 2004.
