Eight Family Members Drown in River During Shell Collection Trip in Shirali
A joyful family outing turned into a heartbreaking tragedy after strong river currents claimed eight lives, including children.

Bhatkal: In a tragic incident that has left the coastal town of Bhatkal in deep shock, eight members of the same family lost their lives after drowning in a river on Sunday.
According to reports, the family had gone to the riverside to collect shells, a common activity in coastal areas. What began as a routine outing soon turned tragic when several members of the family were reportedly swept away by strong currents and sudden deep waters.
Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing cries for help and immediately began rescue efforts. Fishermen and emergency personnel also joined the operation in an attempt to save those trapped in the river.
Despite continuous rescue attempts, all eight family members could not be saved. The victims reportedly included women and young children, making the incident even more heartbreaking for the local community.
The bodies were later shifted to the government hospital, where large numbers of relatives, friends, and residents gathered in grief.
Police and local authorities visited the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials have once again appealed to the public to remain cautious while entering rivers and other water bodies, especially during periods of strong currents and changing water levels.
