A Delhi court on Thursday granted anti-CAA activist Umar Khalid interim bail for 14 days so that he can take part in his sister’s wedding ceremonies. The relief will be effective from December 16 to December 29.

The order, passed by Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai at Karkardooma Courts, requires Khalid to furnish a personal bond of ₹20,000 and provide two sureties of the same amount.

As part of the conditions, Khalid has been directed not to speak with witnesses or anyone connected to the ongoing case, according to a report by Live Law. He must also share his mobile number with the investigating officer and keep his phone switched on at all times during the bail period.

The court further instructed him to stay off social media and limit his interactions to family members, close relatives, and friends. He is allowed to remain only at his home or at the specified venues for the wedding events.

This is not the first time Khalid has been granted temporary bail for family functions. In December last year, he was given a week-long interim bail for a family wedding, and in 2022, he received a similar seven-day relief for his sister’s wedding rituals.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court reserved its order on the bail pleas filed by Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, and several other human rights defenders accused in the larger conspiracy case related to the Delhi violence.
