Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain has strongly condemned the Assam government’s response to an incident involving Muslim schoolchildren in Goalpara district. The controversy arose after reports claimed that five students could face expulsion, a minor was taken into custody, and the widowed mother of one of the children was arrested over food allegedly brought to a school.

In a statement shared on social media, Dr. Hussain accused the BJP led state government of creating an atmosphere marked by fear, discrimination, and social division. He said educational institutions should remain safe and supportive spaces for children rather than places where they face exclusion or prejudice.

The Congress leader questioned the actions taken by both the police and school authorities. He asked why a minor was detained in connection with what he described as a school matter and why a widowed mother was arrested when the issue primarily involved students.

Dr. Hussain also expressed concern over reports that five Muslim students may be expelled from school. He stressed that education is a constitutional right and argued that no child should be denied access to learning under any circumstances.

According to the MP, the incident raises wider concerns about the treatment of minority communities in the state. He alleged that the case reflects a pattern of discrimination and warned against allowing children to become victims of political and social polarisation.

Calling for immediate action, Dr. Hussain urged authorities and child welfare institutions to step in and protect the rights of the affected children. He specifically appealed to the National Commission for Women, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and relevant Assam welfare authorities to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.

His remarks have added momentum to the ongoing debate surrounding the Goalpara incident, with discussions focusing on child rights, fairness, and communal harmony in Assam.
