Bihar Man Claims He Was Booked for NEET Protest While Living in Russia for Four Months
Mohammad Sadaqat's viral video has sparked questions about police procedures, though authorities have neither confirmed nor denied his claim as the state moves to withdraw protest cases.
A resident of Bihar’s Kishanganj district has made an unusual claim that has caught public attention. Mohammad Sadaqat says he was named in a police case linked to the recent NEET protests, even though he has been living in Russia for the past four months .
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Sadaqat is seen standing in front of a building with a Russian flag in the background. He addresses the administration directly, asking for his name to be removed from the case .
“On the 24th (of July), there was a protest against the NEET leak at LRP Chowk, and the Bahadurganj administration has named me in that. I have been in Russia for the past four months,” he says in the video .
He adds, “Since I am in Russia, I request the administration to remove my name from there. I will remain indebted to the administration for this” .
News agency PTI, which first reported the story, noted that it could not independently verify the authenticity of the video . Other media outlets have also stated they have not been able to confirm the clip.
When contacted, Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla gave a measured response. He neither confirmed nor denied whether a person matching Sadaqat’s claims had been booked . “All those who have any grievances related to the protests could approach the police for redressal,” he said .
The official X handle of the Bihar Police had initially responded to the viral video, stating that the matter would be examined. However, that post has since been deleted .
The case against Sadaqat is among the 64 FIRs lodged across Bihar in connection with the July 25 protests over the NEET paper leak . During those demonstrations, 694 people, nearly half of them minors, were detained for attempting to enforce a statewide bandh .
However, the Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, has now announced that it will withdraw all cases filed against students who participated in the protests . This decision came after the Cockroach Janta Party, which led the nationwide demonstrations, demanded that all FIRs be dropped .
A notification from the state home department confirmed that the government is withdrawing all FIRs, complaints, and show cause notices issued in connection with incidents that took place before 6 am on July 26 . All those arrested in connection with these cases will be released immediately .
According to a report by The Indian Express, the case against Sadaqat is now among those being withdrawn. The Kishanganj resident had been booked for damage to public property, among other charges .
While the state government has moved to close the cases, the circumstances surrounding Sadaqat’s inclusion in the FIR continue to raise questions about the accuracy of the police’s record keeping during the protests .
