Bhatkal (Fikrokhabar News): Social and welfare organisations should work together to remove misunderstandings, strengthen unity and brotherhood, and promote a peaceful atmosphere in society. Joint efforts are particularly necessary to make Bhatkal free from pollution, alcohol abuse and drug addiction, speakers said at a goodwill meeting organised by the Majlis Islah wa Tanzeem.
The meeting, held on Sunday at Kokos Resort on Jali Beach in Bhatkal, was organised as part of the Seerat campaign and aimed to strengthen relations among different communities.
Addressing the gathering, Abdul Salam Pattige, chief editor of the daily Vartha Bharati, said that people today often live close to one another but remain distant in their relationships. He stressed the need to change this situation by encouraging dialogue and cooperation.
He said that although disagreements and disputes may arise for various reasons, all organisations and institutions must come together to address social problems. He also called for the teachings and life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to serve as a guiding example in efforts to eliminate pollution, alcohol abuse and drug addiction from the town.
Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Nadwi, general secretary of the Maulana Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi Islamic Academy, highlighted examples of communal harmony from Bhatkal’s history.
He said that people from different religious communities in Bhatkal have traditionally shared a spirit of brotherhood. He recalled visits by prominent Hindu religious leaders, including swamis associated with temples and maths, who had expressed positive views about the Muslim community.
Maulana Nadwi also shared his experiences of meeting swamis at temples, saying they had set aside their other engagements to meet him and spend time together in a cordial atmosphere.
While appreciating efforts by Tanzeem and other organisations to promote interfaith dialogue, he said similar initiatives should also come from members of the Hindu community. He emphasised the need to bring young people closer and pass on Bhatkal’s legacy of communal harmony to future generations.
Bhatkal Deputy Superintendent of Police S V Girish appreciated the initiative to bring representatives of different religions and communities onto a common platform.
He said informal interactions of this kind could help remove misunderstandings and suspicion between communities. He also stressed that mutual trust between the police and the public was essential for maintaining peace and law and order.
