Bhatkal Government Hospital to Get Separate Mother and Child Care Block, Says Health Minister UT Khader
The proposed facility aims to expand healthcare capacity and ease pressure on Bhatkal Taluk Hospital, which is treating more patients than its sanctioned bed strength.
Bhatkal: Karnataka Health Minister UT Khader has said that a separate Mother and Child Care Block will be established at Bhatkal Taluk Hospital to strengthen medical services and reduce the growing pressure on the hospital.
Khader made the statement while speaking to Sahil Online during a visit to the residence of prominent businessman Yunus Kaziya in Bhatkal on Sunday. He was in the town to attend a felicitation programme organised by Tanzeem.
The minister said Bhatkal Taluk Hospital currently has a capacity of 100 beds. However, more than 130 patients are often admitted for treatment, creating a shortage of space and increasing pressure on the existing facilities.
Khader said expanding the hospital’s bed capacity is necessary. He added that Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya has also raised the need for improving and expanding the hospital.
According to Khader, government rules provide for a separate mother and child care unit when a hospital records more than 100 deliveries a month. The proposed facility will focus particularly on high risk cases involving pregnant women and newborn babies.
The new block is expected to provide mothers and children with essential medical services under one roof. It will also help reduce the workload on the main hospital and improve access to healthcare for residents of Bhatkal and nearby rural areas.
Khader said there is a shortage of hospitals offering quality healthcare services in the coastal belt stretching from Kumta to Byndoor. Because of this, Bhatkal Taluk Hospital plays an important role in providing medical care to people across the region.
He said the government would work to further develop the Bhatkal government hospital by providing the infrastructure and basic facilities it requires.
The minister added that a meeting with MLA Mankal Vaidya and concerned officials would be held soon to finalise plans for the proposed Mother and Child Care Block and other hospital development projects.
Responding to another question, Khader said the foundation stone for a Haj Bhavan would soon be laid in the coastal city of Mangaluru. He said the facility would also serve as a multipurpose Islamic centre.
Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya, Anjuman President Yunus Kaziya, Tanzeem President Enayatullah Shabandri, Dr Zubair Kola, Altaf Kharuri, Adam Panambur and others were present on the occasion.
