Bhatkal (Fikrokhabar News): Acting Deputy Superintendent of Police Girish visited the accident site near Gulmi Cross in Bhatkal following a fatal road accident on Saturday night. He inspected the condition of the National Highway and reviewed the traffic arrangements in the area.

Residents drew the DYSP’s attention to the lack of adequate street lighting and proper signboards to guide motorists along the highway. They said two wheeler riders and other road users face considerable difficulties while passing through the area at night, increasing the risk of accidents.

According to local residents, the junction connecting Gulmi and Railway Station Road is a busy intersection where the absence of traffic signals and directional signboards has become a serious concern. A large number of vehicles pass through this junction every day, making it dangerous for pedestrians and motorists to cross without proper safety arrangements.

Residents also expressed concern over accidents occurring despite the construction of the National Highway and ongoing road development works. Referring to a similar incident in the past, they urged the authorities to take preventive measures to avoid further tragedies.

They demanded permanent safety arrangements at Gulmi Cross and Railway Station Road before more lives are lost. Their demands include an underpass, traffic signals, streetlights, speed breakers and proper directional signboards to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

Residents stressed that public safety should be given priority during highway construction. They said preventive measures must be taken in advance rather than waiting for accidents to occur.

It may be recalled that a motorcyclist lost his life in an accident in the same area on Saturday night. Following the incident, angry residents briefly stopped traffic on the National Highway in protest.

The DYSP’s visit and the demands raised by residents have once again highlighted concerns over inadequate safety facilities along this stretch of the highway. Locals have urged the concerned authorities to move beyond assurances and take immediate practical steps to prevent similar accidents in the future.
