Bhatkal (Fikrokhabar News): Reacting to allegations surrounding the displacement of traders from the old fish market, Bhatkal Town Municipal Council’s (TMC) acting president Mr. Altaf Kharuri has strongly denied any such move, calling recent statements by BJP leaders false and misleading.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Kharuri stated that the TMC has no intention of evicting any shopkeepers or fish vendors from their current locations. He urged the public not to fall for politically motivated claims.

He explained that the old fish market building is in a dilapidated condition, and even the Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a formal report declaring the structure unfit for repair. In the interest of public safety and hygiene, the TMC has constructed a new building near the weekly market, at a cost of ₹1.35 crore, to provide fish vendors with a clean and secure space to operate.

Addressing another rumour, Mr. Kharuri categorically denied any plans to build a Gulf Market at the old market site. “There is no such proposal under consideration, nor has any resolution been passed in the TMC in this regard,” he clarified.

He further added that business continues as usual in the old market, with no fees being collected from fish vendors and regular cleaning and maintenance being carried out.

The new market facility, he said, has space for 140 vendors, along with proper parking and basic amenities. Despite these improvements, he expressed concern that some political figures are trying to mislead the public by labelling the new structure as “unscientific”.

Mr. Kharuri appealed to the public to ignore rumours and cooperate with the municipality to ensure the smooth progress of development work in the city.

Standing Committee Chairman Mr. Qaiser Muhtesham was also present at the press conference.
