APCR Bhatkal Hosts Public Awareness Program on Legal Challenges Facing the Community
Senior advocate Syed Akmal Rizvi urged citizens to protect their rights through proper legal documentation and awareness.
Bhatkal: The Bhatkal unit of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights, known as APCR, organized a public awareness program on Saturday at Rabita Hall. The event focused on the legal challenges faced by the community and practical ways to address them.
The keynote address was delivered by Senior Advocate Syed Akmal Rizvi, General Secretary of APCR Karnataka and an advocate at the Karnataka High Court. He spoke about common legal issues affecting citizens and explained the importance of following proper legal procedures to safeguard their rights.
Rizvi stressed that people should not rely only on verbal complaints or meetings with government officials when seeking solutions. Instead, he encouraged citizens to submit written applications, keep proof of submission, and maintain all relevant legal documents. He said proper documentation plays a crucial role in protecting legal rights and strengthening any future legal action.
He also highlighted the difficulties some people face while applying for new passports. According to him, delays are sometimes linked to court cases that were closed several years ago. He advised affected individuals to use the Right to Information Act to request updates on the progress of their applications. This, he said, can help identify the reasons for delays and ensure greater accountability from the authorities.
Speaking about filing complaints with government departments, Rizvi urged citizens to submit every complaint in writing and retain an acknowledgment of receipt. He explained that maintaining such records can be extremely valuable if legal action becomes necessary later.
He further emphasized that understanding constitutional and legal rights has become increasingly important. He encouraged the public to resolve their issues through lawful means and within the framework of the law, describing this approach as the most effective path to lasting solutions.
The program was attended by advocates, students, social workers, representatives of community organizations, local elders, and a large number of residents who took part in the session and benefited from the legal guidance provided.
