Akhilesh Yadav Urges Public Support to Protect Mohammad Ali Jauhar University
SP chief says the university should be preserved and accuses the BJP government of acting out of political rivalry.
Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has appealed to people across India, especially students and parents, to come together in support of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur following a demolition notice issued against the institution.
The appeal comes after the Rampur Development Authority ordered the demolition of 38 of the university’s 40 buildings, stating that the required approvals for construction were not in place.
In a post on X, Yadav described the university as a temple of education and called for collective efforts to protect it. He accused the BJP government of targeting the institution because of political differences and said the move could destroy the hopes of thousands of students and their families.
The university, established by senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, has challenged the demolition notice. Its management argues that the buildings were constructed when the land was outside the jurisdiction of the development authority. Yadav said that if there were any issues with official documents, the authorities should correct them instead of demolishing the campus.
He also highlighted the university’s importance for students from financially weaker backgrounds, saying many of them rely on the institution because they cannot afford expensive private education or overseas studies. Yadav questioned whether the BJP government had become indifferent to the interests of young people and claimed the decision reflected political motives rather than concern for education.
According to Yadav, an educated society is more aware of its rights and is better equipped to question injustice. He alleged that the action against the university was part of a broader attempt to undermine educational opportunities and was driven by political revenge.
The Samajwadi Party leader further claimed that the government had previously regularised thousands of other buildings through similar administrative processes but had refused to extend the same treatment to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. He argued that the approval process could be completed quickly if the government chose to set aside political differences.
Yadav urged the BJP government to stop what he described as unnecessary excuses and take steps to protect the university, saying that prejudice remains one of the clearest forms of injustice.
